Feature Interview: After a week-long hiatus during the Stream of Many Eyes, our hosts return triumphantly to regale us with remarkable tales from the city of Waterdeep. Well, Greg Tito does; Shelly Mazzanoble didn’t get to go. But, no matter. Shelly will soon be at Origins Game Fair, which is happening this June 13-17 in Columbus, OH and she’ll have a real WW2 era tank! For the interview, writer and transmedia producer Emmett Furey and physical adventure game designer Elisa Teague are on to reveal all that went into the captivating #NoStoneUnturned ARG (Alternate Reality Game) that they ran in the lead-up to the Stream of Many Eyes event.

Lore You Should Know: In the world of Dungeons & Dragons few, perhaps no other, commands as much veneration and at times even terror as the archmage of Greyhawk himself, Mordenkainen. Chris Perkins delves into the long history, both real and imagined, of this character that Gary Gygax himself embodied, when he wanted to adventure in the world of his own creation.

This Episode's Guests

Elisa Teague

Elisa Teague is a tabletop game designer who has worked on well over 100 titles, including board and card games as well as RPGs. A veteran of the game industry of 18 years, her most recent titles include Betrayal at House on the Hill: Widow's Walk, Apocrypha Adventure Card Game, and new versions of her hit geeky trivia party game, Geek Out!, as well as adventure modules and content for RPGs such as Kids on Bikes and Dungeons & Dragons. She recently wrote the first Competitive Epic for D&D Adventurer's League ever written by a woman, and it was filled with puzzle challenges - a specialty of hers as a puzzle designer for various books, escape rooms, ARGs, and corporate events. As a GM, her story-telling style, props and visuals, as well as creative encounters take the crunch out of gameplay and put the emphasis on an welcoming roleplaying environment.

Emmett Furey

Emmett Furey is a writer, transmedia producer, game designer and professional GM. He won an IAWTV Award in 2015 for his transmedia work on The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy. He was a module writer on the livestream RPG show VAST on Geek & Sundry Alpha. And he is currently designing a tabletop RPG for Niantic’s Ingress, writing modules for and game mastering Ingress RPG events, and writing for the Ingress Alternate Reality Game. He’s also an instructor in the Screenwriting Department at the New York Film Academy, Los Angeles Campus.

Greg Tito

Greg Tito has had weird and long career as an Off Broadway stage manager, a playwright, a theater carpenter, a secretary, an RPG designer, a games journalist, and now a PR/Marketing person. He has loved Dungeons & Dragons ever since 1985 when he found an old copy of the AD&D Dungeon Master’s Guide on his brother’s bookshelf and he honed that love of fantasy storytelling in the dark streets of Sasserine by way of the Upper West Side gaming group he joined in 2004. He moved his family (wife + two young kids) to Seattle in 2015 to work on D&D and he’s never looked back. You can find Greg on Twitter.

Shelly Mazzanoble

Shelly Mazzanoble will always play a magic-user. There. She said it. Enough pretending to want to break out of her comfort zone. She’s a magic-user. She’s also the brand lead for Avalon Hill and loves talking about that one time she played Diplomacy and SOMEONE (okay, it was Ben Petrisor) stabbed her in the back and took over her beloved Russia. If you enjoy tales of sorcery, board game upheavals, and reasons her 3 year-old is crying (HINT: She tried to make him eat a Nutella crepe), find Shelly on Twitter and Facebook.
